Sit El Kon (The Grandmother of the Universe) album was released on 31 January 2020 via SPRINGSTOFF. The new single off the album titled  ‘Abu Dub’ has generated over 56 000 plays on the Apple Music Mostakella (Arab Indie music) playlist. Jamila & The Heroes have also received attention from the Spotify Editorial Playlist, by being featured three times.

They are known for their unusual music style which combines psychedelic rock with funk and Arab folklore, which likely originated from their varied backgrounds and heritage. The group takes inspiration from a variety of musicians for their sound which includes Yasmine Hamdan, Altin Gün, Novos Bahianos, and Led Zeppelin. They have appeared on numerous stages including Rudolstadt Festival, Klangfreunde World Music Festival, Feminist Chouftouhonna Festival Tunis.

The group elaborates on the new album, “SIT EL KON is dedicated to the many unheard voices of our strong and funny grandmothers whose sacrifices paved the ground for our freedom today. A freedom that makes us feel lost sometimes. A freedom that shall not be selfish but in which we can expand an attitude of solidarity and unconditional love.  We wish to take our listeners on a furious journey through unconscious galaxies which unite us with the experiences and spirits of our ancestors that continue to exist on this planet in the here and now. May our grandmothers be playing Backgammon and drinking Araq together while protecting us from outer space.”
