Releasing the vibrant dancefloor track ‘Together’ with Prinze George via Physical Presents, Shaun Frank continues to show his affinity for dance music. The music producer and songwriter has produced tracks with the likes of Steve Aoki, Oliver Heldens, DVBBS to name a few and is also known for his role in co-creating The Chainsmokers breakout hit ‘Closer’. ‘Together’ shows the producer taking a softer approach to the dancefloor with messages of hope and finding a light at the end of the tunnel especially in these unprecedented times we all find ourselves living in. The Toronto based producer’s previous single ‘Save Me’ featuring the buttery vocals of Ryland James left us wanting to find comfort in the embrace of a lover, and ‘Together (ft. Prinze George)’ is somewhat a continuation of hope after despair.
We chatted with renowned producer Shaun Frank below.
Tell us about your highlights for the year
Had a great trip to LA, and got to play my first show back in eighteen months of time off.
If you could paint a picture of your sound, what would it look like?
Like a Bob Ross.
What are the 5 albums and artists that have influenced you the most?
Radiohead, Phil Collins, Coldplay, Rufus Du Sol, Calvin Harris.
What are your thoughts after working on this collaboration with Prinze George? They are quite different to the music you usually create.
I heard them first on their Collab with Carnage, Letting People Go. I really loved her voice and sorta got some real Florence and the Machine vibes. I knew we could make a good hybrid of both our sounds!
What other artists do you really like at the moment and why?
Cassian’s been putting out fire.
How did you get to your first gig ?
First gig was at a high school battle of the bands…we did not win.
Tell us one interesting fact about yourself that no-one would expect.
I have a passion for smoked meats.
This song is an invigorating listen for club-goers as social regulations on gatherings have eased, quite emotional for those who thrive on face to face interaction. What emotions were you trying to evoke on this track as a music producer?
Just that we are powerful as humans to prevail through the darkest times as long as we stick together and love each other. That’s what this song is really about.
What do you consider your biggest achievement so far?
Grammy nomination for writing ‘Closer’ by the Chainsmokers.
