Parentz releases new track ‘Dead Mall’

PARENTZ is the sometimes absurd, sometimes serious Oakland-based art-pop project of Jeremy Sullivan, with multi-instrumentalist and artist Jonathan Hall. You may know them from pumping ironic-pop songs like “Beach Body,” or the 100k+ streams hit “LoseCTRL.” The electronic duo returned this summer with another zeitgeist-y head-nodder searching for the profound in the mundane with “Dead Mall.” The nostalgia strings are being tugged in full effect as PARENTZ waxes on such topics as calling your sister for a ride home, and washing your mouth out with coke when you’ve been secretly smoking cigarettes, so your parents don’t find out.

And “Dead Mall” just won’t stay dead. PARENTZ is bringing it back and banging down the door to your inbox with a playlist of frens and frenemies featuring a fresh “Dead Mall” remix by Bay Area electronic duo Pretty, Handsome.

It’s a haphazard smattering of Bay Area and beyond artists that somehow works. Electronic artists like Giraffage, Mwahaha, Vice Reine, Poolside, Terabyte, Naytronix, Electro-soul funk like Ghost & The City, Eric Boss, Planet Booty, fellow Text Me Records artists Grandbankss, Ricky Lake, Jay Casio, and more join the party. Listen up, and let PARENTZ drag your lifeless corpse away by your earholes.
