Olovson’s sophomore album UNTANGLE, released November 19, 2025 on his own 1136 Diamond label, feels like the record a lot of us have been waiting for without knowing it. The Swedish-raised, LA-based composer and producer built a serious following with 2022’s Storytelling — over 3 million streams, love from CLASH, PopMatters, Wonderland, Rolling Stone India, plus slots on BBC Radio 6 and NTS. Add Grammy-winning production for Frank Ocean, Dua Lipa, and Mark Ronson, a SHOWTIME sync for ‘Books Are Flying’, and BAFTA-qualifying short-film nods for the ‘Gyroscope’ visual, and you get why people pay attention. This time, though, he steps all the way forward and sings, trading mostly-instrumental moods for something way more direct.
The eleven tracks slip between grainy ambient electronica, slow-burn lo-fi R&B, and those delicate, jazz-touched piano lines he’s mastered. His voice is quiet, almost spoken in places, but it locks everything together. Early standouts like the first single ‘THINGS I COULD’VE LEFT BEHIND’ (already backed by NPR Music, KCRW, and KEXP 90.3 FM) and the title cut that hit Spotify’s New Music Friday Sweden set the tone. For my money, ‘RIVER’ is the one that keeps pulling me back — hazy drums, flickering synth textures, off-kilter production that feels like James Blake or Sampha run through a late-night filter. The iPhone-shot stop-motion video he directed himself, a lone puppet building a raft and drifting away, matches the track perfectly.
Olovson had this to say about the album: “The album takes you from track 1 (‘THINGS I COULD’VE LEFT BEHIND’) you’ve held on to baggage and it’s too heavy to carry any longer so you make the decision to face it and put down your baggage. all the way to the last track (‘FLOWERS TOLD ME SO’) where nature, which has been here forever way longer than us, gives us peace in telling us everything will move on, everything will grow again, everything is moving on and so should you.”
